When big corporations hide billions in offshore accounts and exploit other tax loopholes, it is small businesses and the middle class that pick up the tab. Money that could be used to put children in schools, build hospitals, and reduce inequality is instead funneled back into corporate profits while the rest of us pay more to make up the difference.

And that’s true around the world in rich and poor countries alike. The poorest countries lose about $100 billion dollars every single year to international corporate tax dodging.

But there is a bill in Congress right now that would help even up the playing field so that American corporations have to pay their fair share. The Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act would close some corporate tax loopholes in the US while increasing transparency abroad.
