RESTORE AMERICA'S TRADITION: WELCOME REFUGEES
Every single day, families worldwide are forced to leave their homes in search of safety and a better life elsewhere. Fleeing conflict and violence, poverty and persecution, many escape with nothing but the clothes they are wearing and put their hopes and dreams in the US.
Shamefully, that tradition and opportunity is under attack. The Trump administration has enacted racist and heartless policies that threaten American values.
Make a difference in the lives of refugees seeking safety in the US: Tell Congress to restore America’s tradition of welcoming the most vulnerable.
Add your name here to call on Congress to take action on three important initiatives:
1) Increase the number of refugees resettled in the US: Since 1975, the US refugee resettlement program has given refuge to more than 3 million families. Although presidents have set historical annual targets of 95,000 refugees for admittance, this year’s admissions number is 30,000 and President Trump is currently considering to set it to zero. Oxfam supports the GRACE Act to raise the admissions number to 95,000 refugees during this unprecedented crisis.
2) Adequately fund refugee assistance programs: Vital funding is necessary to support refugees and provide lifesaving assistance for the world’s most vulnerable. Oxfam urges Congress to allocate at least $56.4 billion for this fiscal year’s State Department and Foreign Operations budget to ensure ongoing US leadership in responding to humanitarian crises, protecting the world’s most vulnerable, and fighting poverty.
3) End the Muslim Ban: More than two years ago, President Trump’s Muslim Ban went into effect. It was wrong then to bar people from majority-Muslim countries from coming to the US, and it’s wrong now. Oxfam supports the NO BAN Act to dismantle the Muslim Ban—once and for all.
It's urgent that you write to your representatives in Congress now and tell them you support these three initiatives. It’s time to stand up for refugees and their families—join us!
